The Femme Story
The concept of Femme was born in 2020 during the pandemic. It all started when my wife began researching lesbian-owned businesses, which led us to discover lesbian-owned bars. Surprisingly, there were only 21 such bars in the entire country at that time, which amazed us. We decided to explore and visit some of these lesbian bars, with New York being the closest to us. It was in these spaces that we experienced a sense of genuine belonging. We could just be ourselves and revel in the welcoming atmosphere.
Spending time in those spaces quickly convinced us that we wanted to bring that same feeling of inclusion to Worcester. There are not many places left for queer women to feel safe and authentically themselves. This is when the idea for Femme was born. Starting this business and creating something special for the community means the world to us. Our hope is that everyone who visits, regardless of their race, gender, or sexuality, will find a sense of home and belonging at Femme.
