About this event

Jujitsu is about practical self-defence. We focus on realistic defences against attacks - for example being punched, grabbed, strangled, or being kicked while on the ground. Practising a martial art increases your awareness of potentially dangerous situations and increases your confidence.

You'll need loose, relaxed clothing - a t-shirt, shorts or jogging bottoms, and a sports bra if you need one. We train barefoot, so you don't need trainers. For your own safety, please do remove jewellery/watches etc or put medical tape over piercings.

We know it can be a bit intimidating to do something new. We start with a warm-up led by trained instructors (black belts). If you are a little bit late and the warm-up has already started, you are still fine to come in.

The training will consist of a mixture of self-defence techniques from various attacks - defences from punches, grabs, strangles and kicks while on the ground.

We are aware that not everyone picks up new skills at the same rate. We'll work with you as fast or as slowly as suits you. You'll never be made to do any sort of technique that you don't want to.

There is generally a group of anything from 10-20 people and you will work with different people during the class - a great way to meet new people and have fun learning a new skill!

Ishigaki has been the UK's largest LGBT+ martial arts club since the mid-90s.
