This 1.5 hour workshop is a chance for queer individuals and families to enjoy singing together in a relaxed, open and fun atmosphere.
Group singing has been shown to have a huge range of physical and emotional wellbeing benefits, so a singing workshop is a great opportunity for families to do something together that makes everyone feel good.
We will take the group through a series of fun physical and vocal warm ups, giving them a chance to explore their unique voices and learn a bit about singing techniques. Then we will teach a series of songs from a range of cultures and genres that everyone can sing together in harmony.
About the facilitators
Lydia (she/her) is a singer and composer/arranger with an interest in traditional folk and experimental improvisation. She has performed and toured extensively in different ensembles in the UK, Europe, USA and Mexico and also works as a singing facilitator one-to-one and in group workshops. Over the last decade she has worked in play and youth work and has facilitated workshops in a variety of settings including schools, youth clubs, mental health services and care homes. She currently run three weekly singing groups for new parents and carers in Hackney, Haringey and Walthamstow.
Rosa Slade (they/them) is a singer and instrumentalist from London and founding member of the band Peggy Sue; since 2007 they have released four albums on Wichita Recordings, culminating in the critically acclaimed Choir Of Echoes, and toured with the likes of Jack White, Local Natives and First Aid Kit. In February 2020 they released their fourth studio album Vices, accompanied by a UK tour in 2021. With Peggy Sue Rosa performs, composes and produces and has toured both in the UK and internationally. They also perform and compose in Deep Throat Choir, an all-female and Non-Binary collective who released their second album In Order To Know you in 2021 on Bella Union.

To keep our community safe, we ask that all visitors do not visit the centre if they are feeling unwell including headache, fever, sore throat, consistent cough, chills and unusual spots, scabs or ulcers.
You can wear a mask if you feel more comfortable. We also have masks and hand sanitiser available at the Centre.
