Working with the sensuous and fascinating material that is clay can connect us to our deeper selves and unlock new perspectives and insights.
This therapeutic workshop consists of clay play and supportive, facilitated discussion, which will help us process our feelings about our queer and trans bodies as a collective.
We will be using local London clay, which will be reclaimed after the session which allows participants to "let go" of the experiences from the class in a meaningful way.
The session is a therapeutic making session that is more focussed on self-reflection and discussion. Participants will not keep their pieces, but rather allow them to be recycled as a metaphor for releasing the things discussed in the group setting.
Thanks to Evguenia's collaboration with @goldenearthstudio, they've been able to process a batch of local London clay. This has meant being able to offer this session for free or pay what you can!
What to expect:
- A guided session of clay exploration suitable for any level
- Facilitated discussion around bodies and body image with a focus on queer and trans bodies
- Brief instruction on handbuilding techniques
This 2-hour workshop is suitable for all levels and abilities. Refreshments will be provided. Please wear dark-colour clothes that you can get dirty in as clay can stain.
About the facilitator
Evguenia Ignatenko (they/them) is a ceramic artist and researcher currently studying at the Royal College of Art.
Their focus centres on kin-making through clay, both with the material, and with the people around us, with a view to a more interconnected world.

Covid safety at the London LGBTQ+ Community Centre
To keep our community safe, we ask that all visitors do not visit the centre if they are feeling any Covid-19 symptoms including headache, fever, sore throat, consistent cough and chills.
You can wear a mask if you feel more comfortable. We also have masks and hand sanitiser available at the Centre.
